b chehayeb is an American contemporary artist based in Brooklyn, NY, whose work focuses on the reconstruction of failed memories and sensory experiences informed by gender, language, and cultural hybridity. Through her paintings, prints, and drawings, b chehayeb creates semi-abstract fields of luscious texture, gesture, color, and ambiance that are perforated with her growing lexicon of symbols. These symbols, including cowboy boots, stars, horses, snakes, ladders, furniture, and the letter ñ, act as anecdotes, spaces, and emotions that emerge from the paint.
b chehayeb received her MFA from the prestigious Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2020 and a BFA in painting with studies in creative writing from the University of North Texas in 2013. She has been the recipient of awards and residencies, including The Studios at Mass MoCA Residency Program, Vermont Studio Center, Lower East Side Printshop, and Elizabeth Murray Artist Residency Award. b chehayeb has also been a finalist for the Hopper Prize and received the New York City Redbull Arts Microgrant.
b chehayeb's captivating work has been featured in numerous publications, including Town & Country, Forbes, VOGUE, The Wall Street Journal, ELLE Décor, Dallas Modern Luxury, D Magazine, Hyperallergic, Glasstire, Maake Magazine, and Hypebeast.
