Bobbi Essers (b. 2000) was born in Enschede, Netherlands, and is currently based in Groningen, Netherlands. After earning a Fine Art degree from HKU in Utrecht in 2022, she was awarded the Buning Brongers Prize for Painting (Amsterdam) that same year. Drawing inspiration from youth and queer culture — where long nights are essential and sleep is secondary — Essers captures her treasured friendships in large-scale paintings. Her work challenges traditional gender roles, emphasizing that gender and sexuality do not conform to a specific visual identity.
