Still Ridin'

Frank Jimin Hopp

140 x 105 cm, Oil on canvas, 2023

Frank Jimin Hopp (b. 1994, Germany) is a German-Korean artist. He currently lives and works in Berlin. In 2023, Hopp completed his studies in Fine Arts at the Berlin University of the Arts with the title Meisterschüler. In 2020 he participated in the MA Fine Arts program at the University of Arts London. In addition, he completed a semester abroad in 2022 with a focus on painting and ceramics at Hongik University in Seoul, South Korea.

Frank Jimin Hopp's main media include painting, drawing and ceramics. In his works, references to art history and Western or Asian mythology naturally meet pop-cultural elements from comics, manga, video games or film. The works, which often appear colorful and overloaded, almost euphoric at first glance, reveal abysses on closer inspection that reveal a broken relationship between humankind and nature.

Hopp's works have been shown at Haus am Kleistpark (D), the Tempelhof Museum (D), the Gropius Bau (D), Documenta Fifteen (D) and the Saatchi Gallery (GBR), among others. In 2019, Hopp was awarded the Haus am Kleistpark Art Award and the Walter Stöhrer Foundation Recognition Award. In 2021 he received a scholarship from the Cusanuswerk artist grant program.
