Matt Phillips lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. His works often employ basic elements of painting: simple shapes, modulated values and colour relationships. These more rudimentary components are combined and remixed to produce unexpected results. Colour, shape, sign and form intertwine in strange and familiar ways, becoming tense, humorous, whimsical and ultimately meaningful.
