Born in Vancouver in 1979, Montreal based artist Delphine Hennelly earned her BA from the Cooper Union in 2002 and her MFA from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University in 2017. She has exhibited extensively throughout the United States and Canada, including recent solo shows at Pt. 2 Gallery in Oakland and Projet Pangée in Montreal. Hennelly is known for drawn, painted, and printed works of art. Her work is characterized by the vibrancy of her colors and linework, with much of her art consisting of deceptively simple brushstrokes and subtle variations in hue, which together yield incredibly expressive images. This visual dynamism is paired with subject matter, often figurative or featuring natural motifs, that is emotionally evocative without being narratively explicit. Hennelly also frequently creates work incorporating eye-catching patterning, in some cases whole compositions of repeated floral forms rendered in her unique style, and in others injecting linearly repetitive geometry into representational scenes to break up and energize her compositions.
