Janes Haid-Schmallenberg (born 1988 in Warstein, Germany) is a Berlin-based artist whose work thrives on a deliberate search for the "opposite of settled painting," favoring a process-oriented approach that embraces both "happy and unhappy decisions" on the canvas. Rejecting the idea of the "brilliant sketch," he views the act of painting as a continuous struggle where elements are constantly discarded or transformed, often resulting in works that function as a dialogue between the artist and his materials. His compositions are rarely direct translations of reality; instead, they emerge from a "mental cinema" of daydreams and internal images, challenging the viewer to engage with the raw, unfinished energy of a painting that is perpetually in flux.
