Gemma Solà Sotos was born in 1993 in Barcelona, Spain. Between 2014 and 2018, she studied at the University of Barcelona, where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts. In 2018, she moved to Munich to continue her artistic development at the Academy of Fine Arts under the tutelage of Gregor Hildebrandt. She currently lives and works between Vienna, Munich, and Barcelona. In her painting, the canvas becomes a space for reflection and the exploration of diverse contemporary subjects, which she intertwines with personal associations. Reality and fiction, the natural and the artificial, the representation of the self, and the influence of social media are among the themes Solà examines, illuminating them with humor, irony, or profound seriousness. Working without a predetermined concept, the artist utilizes acrylics, airbrush, oil pastels, and vibrant colors in a naïve style. In this way, painting becomes a palette where physical and virtual realities merge. Symbolic visual elements and their function as emotional triggers for memories play a central role; through their abstraction, they lose their original context, allowing for entirely new interpretations.
