Dani McKenzie is an Australian born artist, who is currently based in Naarm/Melbourne. Her practice stems from an interest in street photography, intrigues of the everyday, and particular cultures that emerge within high-density city life. A self-proclaimed ‘ethical spy,’ McKenzie uses painterly techniques to reinterpret her own street photographs, which are predominantly taken of strangers. Blurring a boundary between the public and the private, her paintings effectively create an impression of second hand people watching, allowing us to share in her observations - both as one who is seeing, and one who is being seen.
